Experience Behind the Advice
RSE brings hands-on experience from complex medical-device programs where requirements, architecture, risk, hardware, software, fluidics, sensing, connectivity, usability, and verification all have to come together.
The work has ranged from early architecture and technology decisions through requirements, integration, risk management, and verification planning—often at the interfaces where development problems are hardest to see and most expensive to discover late.

A Complex System Requires a Systems View
Hemodialysis machines bring together precise fluid delivery, sensing, software, alarms, user interaction, disposables, cleaning and disinfection, and safety-related functions. A change in one part of the system can have consequences far beyond the component being changed.
My experience with these systems has spanned software and user-interface design, product reliability, system architecture, requirements, risk management, fluidics, sensing, diagnostics, disinfection, and verification.
From Experience
Served as the system-level representative on an international engineering team redesigning a flagship hemodialysis platform, helping integrate requirements, architecture, usability, risk management, reliability, and cost considerations across the program.
Experience across multiple generations of hemodialysis technology provided a firsthand view of how decisions made in requirements, architecture, interfaces, and risk management ultimately affect verification, reliability, usability, and product performance.
International Platform Redesign

Patented Innovation
Named inventor on two patents covering medical-device user interfaces and time-varying therapy parameters in blood-treatment systems.
Turning a Physical Measurement into a Connected System
A flow measurement may begin with a sensor, but delivering a useful product requires much more: fluid mechanics, sensing accuracy, electronics, embedded software, communications, interfaces, requirements, and verification all have to work together.
RSE experience includes development of a connected flow-measurement system combining precision sensing with Bluetooth communication—an example of the system-level integration required to turn individual technologies into a functioning product.

Medical Device Standards & Regulatory Frameworks
RSE brings systems engineering experience developed in regulated medical device environments, with work informed by ISO 14971 and IEC 60601-1, including experience with IEC 60601-1-11 for home healthcare environments. RSE also brings experience working within ISO 13485 quality management systems and familiarity with related standards and processes, including IEC 60601-1-2 for electromagnetic compatibility and IEC 62366-1 usability engineering processes.
These frameworks inform requirements development, system architecture, risk management, and verification and validation planning throughout the product development lifecycle.
Experience Applied to Your Program
RSE brings this systems perspective to medical-device programs where requirements are evolving, interfaces are creating uncertainty, technical risks need to be understood, or verification problems need to be prevented before they become expensive.
